0Why small charities?
Small, well-run charities transform lives every day. They do work that has real impact, but don’t have the big marketing budgets to reach lots of people. That means the 4% of charities in the UK receive 82% of donations.
But this isn’t just about redressing an imbalance. Small charities are specialists, working in a particular field like HIV or suicide prevention. Specialism means expertise. And because they’re small they can be innovative and responsive to needs, without the bureaucracy of larger organisations.
What does RYH do?
RYH finds and selects small charities working with young people. They carry out rigorous due diligence on the charities to ensure any donations invested will be well spent. Then they raise money for them.
Young people and the pandemic
Even before 2020, child poverty in the UK was on the rise. Now, 120,000 children have been plunged into poverty as a result of the pandemic (Legatum Institute, 2020), as well as the huge implications for mental health. Demand for the RYH charities’ services has soared, in some cases doubling since March 2020.
The RYH charities
RYH supports 12 exceptional small charities working across a wide range of causes including mental health, poverty reduction, education, bullying and bereavement.
Each has been selected for their rigour, innovation, passion and ambition for affecting lasting change, and transforming the lives of children around the UK.
The challenges posed by lockdown have shown the best side of RYH charities.
We’ve seen just how nimble these small, well-run organisations can be. They’ve adapted their ways of working and innovated like never before, so that they can continue to help vulnerable young people.
