We support children to have the best start in life and improve the quality of live for adults by providing a holistic therapeutic approach of rehabilitation through Conductive Education which develops the non-damaged side of the brain through purposeful, repetitive movements with trained professionals called Conductors.
Through the CE approach, we can achieve life changing results by training undamaged parts of the brain to take control of motor functions previously managed by areas that no longer work. We’re able to offer this intensive intervention which is not available via the NHS and treat not only the symptoms, but emotional wellbeing too. Our Conductor’s help to build self-confidence as our participants learn new, or re-learn, essential tasks needed to live an independent life.
Our sessions look at every aspect of the individual’s development: fine and gross motor skills, speech and non-verbal communication, self-care, emotional and social development with the ultimate objective of increasing independence. Our Conductors could be seen as a mixture of physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and teachers.
Our Children’s Service is set up to maximise the potential of the individual using a strength’s-based approach – the focus is always on what the participant ‘can do’ rather than can’t. Parents are often informed by doctors that their child will never walk or talk or meet normal development milestones, we’re here to help them learn everyday skills that are so often taken for granted such as sitting unaided, walking, self-feeding and communication.
By teaching CE to children, adults and their carers and actively encouraging they practise CE in every aspect of their everyday lives, we are able to unlock the child’s potential and help adults maintain their independence. Our sessions improve their abilities much like an able-bodied person would when going to the gym to increase strength and functional fitness, we help to strengthen their muscles and develop their skills which ultimately increases their independence, confidence, safety and quality of life.
We currently provide three children’s groups; Early Intervention for infants aged 0-3 and their parents, Nursey and School Booster for children over 3 years, and Saturday Club for older children over 8 years who are unable to attend weekday sessions due to attending school full time. During the school holidays we provide Holiday Clubs. Our adult groups are split into; Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Stroke, and adult Cerebral Palsy. We also offer one to one individual sessions for both adults and children. We are currently supporting 54 children and 45 adults with neurological conditions from across Hampshire, the South Coast and wider Wessex region, having provided over 2,502.5 hours of Conductive Education in the 22-23 academic year. We are committed to the continuation of our provision and furthering the number of individuals we support.
