Quokka Bookstore - Independent Bookshop in Perth

Aim: Help Quokka Bookstore open the independent bookshop in the heart of the beautiful Perth, Scotland.
I am Monica, the founder and director of Quokka Bookstore.
After a couple of years only as an online bookstore, and a pop-up bookshop for World Book Day 2025, Quokka Bookstore has finally the chance to open the physical bookshop. I am excited to have the opportunity to make my ideas a reality, something that an online bookstore can’t allow you to do, and meet real people after working from home since the first lockdown.
The bookshop will be a cosy and welcoming place to visit, in the heart of the beautiful Perth (Scotland), in one of the areas with many independent businesses, museums, the Theatre and the Concert Hall.
The bookshop will stock books for every age and genre, but it will primarily focus on promoting reading for pleasure for children and teenagers. Teenagers, in particular, are often left behind comparing to the enormous number of books published every year in the UK for other age groups. Engaging author events will be also organised for all.
In addition of fantasy, romance, crime, historical fiction novels, you will also find books dedicated to wildlife and nature, a topic close to my heart. Probably some of you wondered about the name chosen for the bookstore and it was inspired by my interest in vulnerable and endangered species.
The crowdfunding is set up to cover the deposit and furniture costs necessary to start this new adventure.

How Quokka Bookstore will use the funds
The opening of an independent bookshop in Perth is a great project that will benefit the local community but also a wider audiences, even abroad.
The funds received will be used for:
- Upfront costs (upfront deposit, rent, utilities)
- Furniture: bookshelves, till counter, signage, lighting
- Fees and rewards
- Promotion of reading for pleasure
