Quiet Waters is a small charity based in Camelon, Falkirk, providing individual counselling, bereavement listening and a couple’s counselling service for all people who are in crisis or who need help and support. It was set up in 1995 and has operated in the local and surrounding areas since that time. Quiet Waters is particularly relevant to those disadvantaged by financial hardship as the service is provided free of charge to all, irrespective of faith, gender, sexuality, ethnic origin or life choices.
Quiet Waters is looking to purchase their current premises at 2 Glasgow Road, Camelon, where the charity has been based since its inception in 1995. The building is owned by The Church of Nazarene who have allowed Quiet Waters to occupy the building rent free throughout this time, while Quiet Waters were responsible for the running and maintaining of the property. The Church of the Nazarene are minded to sell the property and have offered the building to Quiet Waters for £45,000 - a discount of around 30% on the actual value.
To date we have raised approximately 10% of the capital funds required and while we are undertaking more grant funding applications, we're coming to you good people to see if you can help us to reach our target.
We have a long-standing presence in the community and our service is in constant demand with many of our referrals coming from GP surgeries, mental health teams, other healthcare professionals, social services, helping agencies, word of mouth, local churches, as well as self-referrals via our website. In the last three years the pandemic, national lockdown, international unrest, and the current cost of living crisis mean that the need for a service such as ours remains constant and we do what we can to relieve some of the pressure on local services.
All our counsellors are volunteers, and we currently have 6 operating with us, 1 of which is a student on placement. As part of the student placement, they are supervised by our Practice Manager. All of our volunteer counsellors are trained to diploma level or equivalent and are members of an appropriate professional body, Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA), British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC). As an organisation we are affiliated to the BACP and work within its ethical framework.
Our volunteers are from a variety of social, cultural, and national backgrounds with a range of working skills and experience thus reflecting an authentic diversity within our volunteer base. All of our volunteers extend kindness, compassion, as well as believing in recovery and empowering clients on their road to wellbeing.
