Purpose of Life is a UK registered charity which operates on a 100% donation policy. Our main objective within the UK is to tackle poverty through the Food & Hygiene Bank which we run and to build relationships through community cohesion. We are fortunate to work with many reputable partners which include Kirklees Council, CHART Kirklees, One Community, British Gas, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, to name but a few.
The Food Bank which we run operates 7 days a week and helps the homeless, vulnerable and also those self-isolating due to covid-19 in the Kirklees area. What distinguishes us from other food banks is that every single food parcel is delivered. With demand increasing and volunteers going back to work we do not have our own vehicle and are relying upon borrowing vehicles.
We need to purchase a van as we do a supermarket shop several times a week, pick up donated food and do a lot of deliveries. As the quantity of items purchased, frequency of shopping and number of deliveries is increasing we are really struggling to cope. The situation is only getting worse due to the covid-19 crisis with more people having to self isolate and unemployment increasing.
In addition to the Food Bank we also provide monthly hot meals to the homeless and vulnerable in Batley & Wakefield and weekly hot meals outside of Dewsbury Town Hall. We want to help as many people as possible but due to the increasing demand for our vital services the lack of our own vehicle is having a negative impact.
