We are looking to build the UK's largest platform for showcasing best practices in road safety to help raise awareness and reduce casualties

by Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) in United Kingdom

We're still collecting donations

On the 25th May 2023 we'd raised £150 with 3 supporters in 69 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Each day, five people are killed and more than 70 are seriously injured on UK roads. The promising news is that we know how to prevent this kind of action from happening.

With your kind support, we would like to aim for Every Day Without A Road Death or EDWARD for short.

For the past five years, Project EDWARD has been growing from strength to strength with the support of its partners to help showcase some of the best practices to reduce these numbers.

We've got a long way to go - in fact, on average the UK achieves just 10 days each year when no fatalities are recorded from road traffic incidents!

Project EDWARD is an immense commitment in terms of time and resources. Last year, more than 200 groups initiated events across the UK during the week of action to engage with the public and influential leaders on the subject of safer, more sustainable mobility. The Project EDWARD team was able to visit many of these events and use its highly effective communications platform to promote good practices across different media platforms.

In 2022: Video link:

    • #projectedward made 40 million impressions on Twitter

    • Print and online media reached 68 million potential readers

    • 21 hours of combined air time reached 44 million listeners

Now, we couldn't do any of this without the support of our valued partners who provide either financial support or their services to make this happen.

David Davies - Executive Director of PACTS (Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety) said:

"Project EDWARD brings together all areas of expertise across the road network in a way that engages the media and public. It has been great to see police, fire & rescue services, local authorities, academia, national roads agencies, schools, ambulance services - as well as examples of cutting-edge innovation - join forces with a clear mission to promote the Safe System. Project EDWARD rightly deserved its recognition from Prince Michael of Kent, demonstrating that this excellent activity can be replicated internationally."

So what will your support help us to do?

You will be supporting Project EDWARD to raise the importance of safer, more sustainable transport to the wider public and key decision-makers and make Every Day Without A Road Death a reality.

This year, from the 15-19 of May we will launch the Project EDWARD week of action. The theme in 2023 will be Safer Mobility, Everyone's Responsibility and will look at many of the interventions that are known to work, for example, the "seatbelt law" which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

We've got a long way to go - in fact, on average the UK achieves just 10 days each year when no fatalities are recorded from road traffic incidents!

Together, let's make this happen: safer, more sustainable transport is everyone's responsibility.
