Buzz - Support for Separated Families

Buzz offers comprehensive, solution focussed support to families facing separation in South Yorkshire, we have recently extended our services to a broader area in Yorkshire. We are the only Family Time Provider in South Yorkshire to have enhanced accreditation with the National Association of Child Contact Centres.

There are approximately 2.4 million separated families in Great Britain including 3.5 million children (Department of Work and Pensions 2020). Many of these children risk losing contact with a parent within the first two years of separation; this could be as many as 1 million young people (Centre for Social Justice, 2013).We know that long-term conflict between separating parents is harmful to children’s wellbeing, both in the short and long-term

OUR VISION -That every separating family in our areas of operation chooses our support for cooperative parenting, over court.

OUR MISSION- To provide early, solution-focused support to separated families, protecting children from harm and promoting their best future with both parents

OUR VALUES -Safety, Empowerment, Trust, Positivity.

We’re a small, but impactful charity based in Sheffield, we're driving big changes in our sector, both nationally and internationally! We are a Family Time Provider but we do so much more. We've developed a package of services in response to consultation with the families and professionals we work with.

'Families Forward' is a Buzz designed programme that fills the gaps we identified in the standard Family Time services by reshaping Family Time into a more meaningful, structured journey and equips families with resources they can use for life. Families Forward is preventing families from going to court.

Adam and Alice

Adam couldn't see his daughter, Alice, unaccompanied. Family arrangements had broken down, leaving him feeling powerless, distraught, and judged. Most of all, he desperately missed his little girl.

Alice, too, was struggling. She didn’t understand why her dad wasn’t coming to see her. She felt sad and started making up stories to her friends about fun weekends together.

The 'Families Forward' programme focuses on what’s working and builds from there. We matched Alice with a Family Practitioner experienced in working with children her age and someone who shared her love of football! Their first meeting? A kickabout, of course.

We also met with Adam, Alice’s mum, and her Aunt, who had tried to help with arrangements. By focusing on solutions, not blame, we created a path forward:
✅ A mediation session
✅ Advocacy and support for Adam
✅ Guidance for both parents on talking to Alice about the separation
✅ Six Family Time Sessions—usually at the park, playing football!
✅ A Moving On Together plan, ensuring a positive future

With the right support, Adam and Alice rebuilt their bond.
