For the second time in my outdoor professional life I had occasion this morning to perform CPR on a stranger I came across who was unconscious and non responsive. Unfortunately they died, it appears from cardiac arrest.
In order for a patient to have a reasonable survival chance in the case of cardiac arrest a defib should be applied within 3-5 minutes or even sooner. In the environment I work in on large lakes and lochs, hillwalking, remote rivers this is just not possible! It can take 15 minutes to find phone reception!
It’s hard enough in a built up area to find a defib within 5 minutes. In remote environments it’s impossible! Probably an hour a way at least!
there has been talk in the outdoor world of instructors/guides carrying defib units but they are simply too big, heavy and not practical.
However there is now a unit available at 500g it’s bearable. Single use with a 2 year shelf life.
cost of £396 plus £196 membership which will replace the unit after its expiry date.

simply I don’t earn enough to buy this, and it’s (hopefully) not for me personally but after coming across 2 unconscious people of the years it may just save some random persons life where help is hours away. For this reason I’m asking for help to acquire a unit and a years membership and promote it to others in the outdoors. There is also a training unit for £76.80 I could use to promote to other outdoor professionals.
