Help Keep POP-IN the Community
POP, our cherished volunteer-led creative arts initiative in Tameside and Greater Manchester, urgently needs your support. We are seeking to raise £10,000 to keep our project alive and thriving.
Established in 2017, POP transformed a heritage building into a vibrant multi-creative arts venue, filling a void in Hyde, an area facing multiple socio-economic challenges. Over the years, we've hosted diverse live music events, engaging with over 357,000 people and pioneering the first Greater Manchester LGBTQ digital pride streaming event during lockdown.
Our commitment to the community is evident through various activities – from art exhibitions and music schools to mental health sessions and employment training. Despite facing challenges, we outgrew our space and sought a larger venue, envisioning a bright future for POP in Hyde's historic market square.
Unfortunately, our dream turned into a nightmare. Constant changes in letting agents and landlords led to neglected maintenance, endangering the safety of our venue. Daily incidents of falling debris and structural issues forced us to realise the harsh reality – our safety and that of our community were compromised.
We added a few images of the damage so you can see what we were dealing.with.
Legal complexities emerged, exposing significant safety concerns that were hidden from us. With no choice but to leave our intended space, we now find ourselves locked out and facing an unforeseen financial burden.
But this setback won't stop us! Despite the challenges, we see an opportunity to explore new horizons and continue serving our community. POP plans to collaborate with other organisations, staging pop-up events and reaching a wider audience in Greater Manchester and Tameside.
