Poly Rhythm is a free Musical Instrument Library based in Bodmin.
During the Covid 19 restrictions we spoke to young people to find ways how we could support them during the pandemic and into the future and it was through this that Poly Rhythm was born.
It is run by young people and the oldest involved is 24 years old, and the other 2 involved are both 15. Between them they have been servicing, repairing and setting up all instruments that will go out as free loans, learning as they go and listening to the Library members to make sure they have what they need.
The next step in this project is to take it to more people, offer free lessons and run events and jam sessions where people can come together safely and play music.
The main issues this project helps to tackle is access to music, creating connections and bridging the gap between ages and abilities. We have also been told that the project also helps with overcoming anxiety and mental health issues within youth.
In its very early days, Poly Rhythm is already engaging with the community and they have shown interest and started to join the library eager to loan out the instruments. The benefits that will come from this project in Bodmin, one of the most deprived areas in the Uk, will be felt for a long time through the support we receive, the music that is created and the inclusion that young people will feel from this. Your support can really make a difference so please, if you can, donate or go for rewards. If you cant manage this financially then please come join the library, join in the fun and share this project.
