Mimi is my daughter’s entire world. Mimi is a beautiful , kind and devoted girl- always full of fun and energy. She is desperately loved and so, of course, Ellie has always had the best insurance cover for her Incase she should need the vet. A few weeks ago, on a very sunny day, she noticed the colour of her eyes seemed darker. After a google it seemed like she might have a condition called pigmentary keratitis- where extra pigment is laid down on the eye due to chronic irritation and can eventually lead to blindness. She immediately went to the vet and was referred to a specialist who confirmed this and offered surgery to make her eyelids smaller- which would hopefully stop the condition progressing.prior to the surgery she spoke to the insurance company and the vet to check the insurance would cover it and all seemed fine. Ellie was extremely worried but went for the surgery to help Mimi and Mimi came out of the surgery and is recovering well. The claim was sent to the insurance and everything was great - until they replied saying it has been declined. The reason given- that she has had conjunctivitis in the past - never with any indication that this could be/ or lead to a chronic condition- hence they say it is ‘pre existing’ .
Had she known the claim would be denied she would have not been able to go ahead with this surgery.
Now it is too late and obviously she has a huge bill from the vet - who told her prior that they would check all was ok with the insurance, and now deny any responsibility.
This is a massive stress and worry for her - and she would be so very grateful for anyone who could donate even a pound to help.
