Us Leithers deserve beauty, flowers and bees! Help us turn litter to lush by making community gardens out of our rusty boxes.

by Leith Community Growers in Edinburgh, United Kingdom

At Leith Community Growers, we’ve been disappointed to see the sad state of Leith’s greenery in recent years. We’re keen to get involved to turn the rusty planters from litter bins to lush wee gardens that we can all be proud of.

Our vision is to turn the planters into miniature community gardens - organising sociable and open community gardening days run by our skilled community growers and helping bring birds and butterflies back to our streets.

We envision a diverse, interesting and beautiful set of miniature gardens which better represent our diverse, interesting and beautiful community and give nature a place on our streets.

The council has agreed to let us take on the planters. Unsurprisingly there is no budget to care for them. We are keen to do what we can to keep Leith lovely and are seeking support from the community to help us to do this.

Can you help us to make Planters to be Proud of?

Contributing to our crowdfunder would help us to run regular community gardening sessions throughout the year to care for the remaining planters. This would include compost, plants and a series of open gardening sessions, as well as time to connect and organise with the communities around each group of planters. We hope to raise enough to also commission local artists to decorate each box.

We would love to hear your thoughts on our plans! For further details, to discuss sponsorship, other forms of support, ideas or feedback, get in touch at [email protected]
