Pipal Tree

RCN 1159770, Kingsbridge

Through NGO partners in Nepal, we provide support to vulnerable, abused and traumatised Nepalese children, including to the victims of child rape. We fund rehabilitation services, education and training primarily through operating within marginalised communities in south Nepal. We restore and protect forests that offer livelihoods to make communities more resilient to the impact of climate change.

Pipal Tree is a Devon-based registered charity that works only in Nepal. We keep our UK costs very low by being home-based, allowing the maximum amount of funds possible to be transferred to our Nepal projects. We work in five main areas:

  • The environment:   Nepal is the ninth most affected country by climate change. We are responding to the climate emergency through a large-scale reforestation programme in south Nepal.
  • Community support:   We are helping the most marginalised communities in south Nepal through funding school development and small-scale farming activities that will help develop resilience in the face of climate change.
  • Female empowerment:   We provide education at training to vulnerable girls and women through a social enterprise that we have set up in Kathmandu called Lily's Leaves. Trainees include the victims of abuse and deaf women.
  • Child abuse:   We operate a girls' refuge in Janakpur, south Nepal that offers safety and rehabilitation to the victims of abuse, including rape. We bring rapists to justice.
  • Disaster relief:   Sadly, this very poor country suffers under the yoke of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and, more recently, COVID lockdowns. In 2020 we fed 29,000 people across 15 Districts during COVID lockdown. In 2021 we fed a further 14,000 people during a second lockdown. Families like the one pictured below with a food relief consignment.
