This crowdfunding page has been set up for the Peterborough Diwali Committe to raise approximately £5,500 to pay for the Diwali illuminations and associated costs at this year's Peterborough Diwali Festival. The festival takes place on Saturday 22nd October, 2016.
The Peterborough Diwali Festival Committee was established in 2013. The ancient Hindu festival of Diwali with prayer, dance, music, song and lights takes place in Peterborough's Cathedral Square and is seen by thousands of people.
Diwali transforms the city centre with activities and exhibitions that reflect the festival of light and underlines the city's diverse and multi-cultural communities. Peterborough's Indian, Nepali and Sri Lankan communities come together in celebration and shoppers are encouraged to sample Indian food and learn about the origins of the festival and its traditions.
The festival is opened by the Mayor of Peterborough, North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara and Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson MP, will inaugurate proceedings at 11am. The Leader of Peterborough City Council switches on the Diwali lights at 5.30pm.
