Peebles Youth Theatre is a new organisation developed in response to feedback from young people who felt they would like an exclusive group that is led by them & takes forward their ideas providing them with the opportunity to make decisions, choose productions & identify workshops that will help them to develop theatre skills, confidence, self-awareness, meta-skills and leadership. Although the town has an amateur group this is mainly focused on adult members and while performances involve young people from time to time (usually the Christmas pantomime) there are no regular meetings or workshops during the year for young people. This pilot project aims to address this by providing a schedule of workshops and events throughout the duration of the project that provide young people with the opportunity to learn new theatre skills as well as develop communication, self-awareness, confidence and leadership. The pilot will include a series of workshops focusing on theatre skills - singing, dancing and acting, visits to see a professional theatre backstage as well as a live performance plus 2 productions to allow young people to develop metaskills and showcase all they have learned. The organisation will be led by the young people who have already been instrumental in informing the development of the project and the development of ideas.
