Let's celebrate our queer elders
Hello everyone,
Since meeting up with various groups of older LGBT+ people, I realise that they have a lot to say but not many places to say it. I was often struck by their deep insights and unusual opinions on the world we live in today.
Reduce Loneliness
It is found that LGBT+ over 55s are much more likely to be single, live alone, have no children and be less close to their families, compared to the general population. This means they tend to be more isolated and have less support. I want to combat this isolation by spending time with our queer elders to hear that outspoken views on everything from sex to spirituality. Note to everyone, not all old(er) people are wise!
A piece of social history
This will become a short film called Pearls of Wisdom, a piece of social history celebrating our queer elders immortalising them on screen for safe keeping. Amusing, meaningful and eye opening, this film will resonate with all of us in its wit and humanity.
