My Story
My name is Jojo and I started a kids party business back in 2019, I had only been up and running for a few months when we went into lockdown and all my upcoming party bookings had to be cancelled, it was devastating, not only did my only source of income immediately dry up I also had the thought of all those kids who had parties booked now being disappointed. So on went my thinking cap as I wanted to do something that would help these kids still be able to celebrate their birthdays so Party - In-A-Box was born…I moved my bed into the living room and turned my bedroom into a workshop and got straight to work building my first ever product, a box that contained everything you’d need to have a super fun party at home with friends and family. I started delivering them to the doorsteps of all the kids who‘d had parties booked with me and they were a huge hit, word started to get out about the boxes and then I started getting enquires from families all over. It took off like a rocket, I could barely keep up with demand, whilst most people spent lockdown baking cakes and going for leisurely strolls I was working harder than ever, it was incredible, exhausting but truly incredible. When lockdown ended my party business started to pick up again and I just found that I had no time for PIAB and it had to go on the back burner, but I never ever gave up wanting to get it up and running again, so here i am….
The Product
Party In-A-Box is a box (obviously) filled with everything you could possibly need, all fully set up and ready to go to have a fun filled party at home (or venue, school, office, anywhere basically) we have designed this product from scratch and includes, decorations, party props, party games, prizes, cookie decorating kit, craft kits and party bags for each guest. We also want to build a feature on our website which will allow customers to create their own party box choose a theme and add the things they want.
The Plan
The plan is to try and raise all the funds we need, using social media, creating super fun lives every day, giving away prizes to contributors and raising awareness, this is an experiment, the idea came to me in a dream, I have no idea if it'll work but I'm going to give it a shot as in reality its the only way were going to be able to get the funds we need to be able to launch by Dec 2024. My Business Partner
The first thing I KNEW I needed was a partner in crime, I was so done with being in business alone, as a single mum I was already doing so much in life alone and I just wanted to have someone to build this business with, there’s a lot of highs and lows of being self-employed and having someone to go through it all with me was crucial, finding the perfect business partner was step number 1. Then i met Liz, she’s everything I’m not….she is super organised and amazing at all the admin side of things, which is exactly what i needed, someone who could take care of all the “backstage areas” of the business so I could put all my efforts and attention to the creative side which is where my heart is.
The Journey
So here we are 3 years later, at the very beginning, starting from scratch but with a solid plan in place and ready to go. The first thing we need is a website where customers can go and easily purchase our products, this is the biggest start up expense. Next we need create and build our launch product, we want to create a party box to send out for free to as many people as we can and that will be our official product launch party. We also need to need to find a warehouse space to store our products and work from. So that brings us to crowdfunding, we’ve looked at all the options and based on what we need we feel this is the best option for us, this way we can raise the funds we need and at the same time start building our pool of potential customers.
