Painting Our World In Silver

RCN 1166927, Weybridge

Painting Our World In Silver (Silver) was founded by Lisa Powis BEM in 2016 to help combat social isolation and loneliness. According to Age UK, more than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member. Silver wants to help and arranges crafting events for our members in Surrey to provide the key social interactions they had been lacking. In addition, since 2020, Silver has also created and delivered over 11,000 Silver craft care packs to vulnerable seniors. These packs bring a huge amount of pleasure to seniors, they not only help stimulate the mind but show our seniors they are not forgotten.

Our Goal

Silver has one goal, to help fight loneliness in the elderly population and we want to do everything to make our lovely seniors feel special and loved.

Monthly groups

We hold a monthly craft group at Whitley Vilage, near Walton Thames in Surrey. All seniors are welcome and each month we do a different activity such a decoupage, making a sun catcher, decorate a designer bag. Our Easter group was great fun as everyone made a pom pom bunny or a little pom pom chick.

During Covid

After a break of almost 2 years, we are so pleased that our monthly events have restarted for our members in Surrey. During the 2 year break, we have been creating and delivering craft care bags to vulnerable seniors and we continue to do this.1650624389_img_8876.jpg

Our lovely partners

Partnering with Age UK, Age Concern, The Salvation Army and a growing number of Local Authorities and Care Homes, we created and delivered over 11,000 craft care packages to the elderly community.

Our craft care packs

Each package contained a series of activities and crafts such as; crossword book, adult colouring book, craft kits and treats and many more which changed with the seasons. These care packs were designed to provide mental stimulus to our seniors helping to improve their mental health and hopefully provide them some joy when they may have been feeling the most alone.

Target

In 2022, with our lovely supporters help we want to  reach our target of 22,000 craft care bags which is double what we have created so far. Each pack costs £6.50 and 91% of money donated goes directly to the pack cost.

Outreach and beyond

We have built a large network throughout the south of England with our partners and with lifting of restrictions, we want to build on that network by encouraging our partners to bring seniors back into the community and host their own local crafting events.
