Padbury Pre-School

Following a hugely positive inspection by OFSTED (October 2023), in which the setting was graded “Good” in all areas. The main area for development was a product of the limited amount of space available in the setting: “when high noise levels impact on children's ability to listen and concentrate, and some children with SEND become unsettled….and older children struggle to concentrate and listen as peers undertake activities in the same room that distracts them from the planned learning.”

We know from research done by the Education Endowment Foundation that a mixed approach is the most effective approach to developing young children's Personal, social and Emotional development. “We would recommend that early years settings use multiple approaches to support children’s personal, social and emotional development”.

The pandemic had such an impact on so many, and we are in no doubt that for our younger generation, the lack of opportunities to socialise in their early years will have consequences. Additionally, we are starting to see higher levels of children with Special Educational Needs coming to us. We want to act fast to ensure we are putting in place everything we can to support our children.

We are working towards raising £29,000 to enable us to buy and build a garden room. As a small setting with just one room, this will give us some much needed space to enable 1-2-1 and small group work. Having this quiet, small breakout space will help children's speech and language development, and their personal and emotional needs, ensuring that our children are well prepared for the next stage of their school journey.

Our fundraising efforts so far have allowed us to raise almost £18,000, but as a small committee for our charity run setting, we need support to raise the much needed funds.

We are very lucky in our setting to have a fantastic Manager and a committed team of staff who do a wonderful job caring for our children, raising these funds would allow our staff more appropriately support our growing cohort of children with additional needs, for whom a quiet breakout space would make a world of difference.

Please do support us if you can however small.
