Zero Waste Portsmouth (ZWP), founded by Delphine Laveyne, is the organisation that birthed the idea of The Package Free Larder.
ZWP offers the opportunity for like-minded people to share ideas and skills through regular meetings and free workshops to create a cleaner Portsmouth.

The Package Free Larder's committee is formed of a small number of volunteers with one goal in mind: making plastic-free shopping easy and accessible to everyone whilst creating an inclusive community hub.
Since September 2018, we’ve been working diligently to make our ideas a reality. Last March we held an event to launch “The Package Free Larder” concept.

We've received waves of enthusiasm from the public and on social media.

The overwhelming positive response we have had affirms our belief that Portsmouth is ready for this.

Portsmouth has one of the lowest recycling rates in the UK, coming in at 321st out of 345 local authorities for the period of April 2017 to March 2018. Only 24.8% of household waste collected in our city is sent to be reused, recycled or composted.
With over 207,000 people living in Portsmouth and limited access to packaging-free products there is no end in sight to the plastic problem.
Our goal is to eliminate packaging at the source and put power back into the hands of the consumer by making plastic-free shopping easy and affordable.

By supporting our campaign to open Portsmouth’s first community-owned plastic-free supermarket you’ll be helping to shape the future of the supermarket industry and empowering people to redefine the way they consume.

Our store will be run by the community for the community. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, all profits will be reinvested into the shop and local projects aiming to better Portsmouth & Southsea communities.

Raising the target amount will enable us to give Zero Waste Portsmouth a long-awaited permanent home.
We will dedicate a space in the shop to facilitate workshops and events that share innovative solutions for minimising waste and promoting sustainability.
Membership schemes and volunteering opportunities will help make The Package Free Larder a collaborative and participative community hub.
Every member will be offered a 10% discount on every shopping trip and priority booking for all of our events (including workshops).
Choosing to raise funds through the community will enable us to keep prices as accessible and affordable as possible.
All the money raised through this crowdfunding will be used to cover building and business set-up costs (including first year rental of the premises), the stock to get us up and running and fit out the shop.

Image: Chart showing how our funds will be spent. 55% will pay for the premises costs (rental, fitting and more...), 17% for the food & non-food stock, 13% for specialist dispensers, 9% for a scale and a till system and 6% for all the legal stuff.
No matter the lifestyle you lead or how many steps you’ve previously taken to care for the planet, we want to give everyone access to a guilt-free shopping experience and sustainable choices.
We want to make it easy to shop plastic-free so it fits into our busy lives. We currently see our friends spending a lot of time travelling to different stores, each for the few items they have plastic free or having to buy things in plastic containers and feeling terrible about this. Shopping doesn’t have to be this way.
Once The Package Free Larder is open, you will be able to shop using reusable containers which will allow you to buy the exact amount you want.

Should this be new to you, we will be there to help you navigate the logistics of a package-free shop.
