OZAP is a collaboration between artists in Oxford and Harare area putting a fresh angle on the colonial history between the UK and Zimbabwe

by Richard Pantlin in Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

We are a group of friends from the two countries who came together as a creative response to the 2020 Oxford Rhodes Must Fall campaign and Black Lives Matter.

We have obtained basic funding from Oriel College, Oxford University, to run a sculpture competition with the Chitungwiza Arts Centre. CAC supports over 200 indigenous Zimbabwean sculptors. The winning artwork will be the centrepiece of an exhibition on the legacy of Cecil Rhodes to be held at Oriel College, the Oxford University Church and then other venues.

We now need to raise additional funds for a variety of purposes:

- for the winning sculptor to travel to the UK for the launch of the exhibition in September 2025 including visa costs

- to fund exhibitions in Zimbabwe

- mbira music performance at the launch in Oxford

- other travel expenses

Funders will also have the opportunity of purchasing the artworks of other finalists than the winner.
