Aim: Oxfordshire veterans group, Is a community based support group for military veterans across Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire veterans group
Is a voluntary community based group. Run by military veterans supporting veterans across Oxfordshire.
with peer to peer support, for a whole host of different reasons, weather it's helping beat social isolation, by coming to our monthly Friday coffee mornings held at Barton Neighborhood Centre, Headington it's attended by military charities like the Not forgotten, The Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, Supporting Wounded Veterans, Walking With The Wounded, Models For Heroes, Oxfordshire Military Grave Restorers , or our monthly Saturday brunch club held at the Royal British Legion club Abingdon, for peer to peer support or just to have a chat about the good olds days of past service, over a brew and bacon roll,
We help get veterans, reservists, and their families support through the NHS, Op courge veterans, truma network, or adult mental health services within Oxfordshire, drug and alcohol treatment programmes provided through turning point or Adapt charities.
We assist veterans who are suffering from long-term injuries or disabilities from combat or injury during their service or after service from the 100's military charities. As well as aiding them with the best support and advice about pension and disability benefits as well as helping with filling the paperwork from veterans UK ,there is help with benefits and housing from citizen advice. support from the DWP veterans champion for all issues related to benefits, state pensios ,p.i.p .dla.
We have an excellent working relationship with the local authorities, housing associations,
we have networking connections within Oxfordshire from local charities, businesses, private investors, sports teams , manufacturers, and education.
The reason why we are fundraising is to provide all of this to our community in Oxfordshire.
We need the financial resources to get out about at local events right across Oxfordshire, from events like Party On The Pitch or the Soldiers Of Oxfordshire Museum Armed Forces Day, just recently laying wreaths at V.E Day 80 in Abingdon and hosting a veterans celebrationry lunch for ww2 veterans and their guests at the Hilton Garden Hotel Abingdon, and we will be doing the same again for V.J Day 80 in August of this year.
To promote Oxfordshire veterans group we need to use posters, leaflets, literature, all costing money to have them printed, and using social media, the cost of running a website yearly ,
We have many other events and will be attending other social occasions, organised by our events coordinator.
we also offered sports and social occasions hosted by private organisations nationally and locally in Oxfordshire
We attend many veteran's funerals across Oxfordshire each and every year, to never let a former service personnel be alone at their funeral , we have also met the cost of a bulger or a piper at veteran's funeral organise standard bearers to be present from the Royal British Legion or regimental standard/colours to be carried or simply supplying a union jack to cover the coffin.
We offer support to dying veteran's and their families from cancer or long illnesses, we try to make arrangements with other organisations to aid in the provision of respite or help attend a one off event , such as attending the Not Forgotten Christmas Lunch at St James's palace in December with a member of their family or guest
We also need the funds to help a future project to help homeless veterans living on the streets in Oxfordshire, with a Support Bag which are made up of a jumper, socks, underwear ,gloves ,hat ,wash kit , a small hand towel,a torch ,bottles of water , packets of hot drinks coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soup , cereal bars, biscuits. Porridge oats , packets of noodles
We will also ask for donations of extra equipment like sleeping bags , tents , a small camping cooker and gas , a radio , or a cheap mobile phone. Especially when winter starts to set in little comforts like this will aid a homeless veteran survive the winter months out on the streets, while we seek assistance from Op fortitude.
Since the cost of living crisis we have seen an increase of veterans and their families living in poverty across Oxford City centre and Oxfordshire , so we have signed up to local foodbanks to do referrals so families have access to food in a crisis while seeking help from other military organisations nationally,
So £1500 seems a lot to ask for!!! but this will help run the voluntary group for a good period of time. It will also enrich so many lives across this beautiful county of ours
Best regards, and thank you for taking the time to read this and for donating to this project
From all the members of Oxfordshire veterans group
