Mandeville and Kingsmead Primary Schools are Ofsted rated OUTSTANDING schools. Our goal is to give all of our children an outstanding education, which allows each child to develop and succeed. We aim to foster a life-long love of learning and equip our children to be successful in the world.
We are asking for donations to reach our goal of £8000 which would ensure all our children, including those on free school meals, will be able to attend the end of primary school residential which gives our inner-city children from an area with acute social deprivation, a chance to experience the wonder of the natural world, learn new skills and develop into independent global citizens.
We are working towards funding the children usually entitled to free school meals, to make the end of primary school residential trip more affordable for them or for the school if they can’t go for financial reasons.
Schools usually send children on a week-long Year 6 trip to give them the experience of being away from home, being in the countryside or on the coast and learning about animals and farming. Most of all it is like a rite of passage in preparing them to be resilient and able to cope with the demands of secondary education.
The cost of these journeys has increased and increased in recent years and now we also find that for many of the parents it is simply not a choice they can even consider any more, add to this that some are very nervous of letting their children go away any more as a direct effect of Covid. The school receives no funding to pay for this for families on low incomes.
Mandeville Primary School leaders and teachers see this as an incredibly important part of school life and feel very sad that increasingly it will be difficult to continue this work.
The facts
- Kench Hill Centre https://kenchhill.co.uk/school-residentials/ is the centre we use, partly because of the consistently high quality of delivery and partly because the price is better than many other commercial non charity organisations.
- The special Hackney rate is £240 per child for 4 days and 3 nights.
- Coach to the centre return is approximately £900.
- Extra staffing costs school about an extra £1500.
We charge children £250 each (to help towards the costs that school picks up on staffing, buying children equipment and transport). However, this is too much for many of our parents and/or carers.
As you can see, it’s a hefty sum so please give what you can and provide our young people with an experience to remember!
