Aim: We Evolve Project

In Memory of Liam Canning –  Lake Swim for The Evolve Project.

It’s official with less than 2 weeks to go and men being men leaving the funding page until last minute, 6 of Liams family and friends have been training and signed up for an open water swim ranging from 3/5k.

On 25th September 2025, we tragically lost our beloved brother and friend, Liam Canning. His sudden passing has left an unfillable space in our lives, but his strength, energy, and relentless positivity continue to inspire all who knew him.

Liam was a man of exceptional resilience, with a mindset that pushed boundaries and inspired others to do the same. Whether he was cycling up Pen-y-Ghent at 6 a.m. or running during a 72-hour fast, he believed deeply in the power of physical activity to improve mental and emotional well-being. He wasn’t just physically strong—he was driven, kind, and passionate about helping others.

Fittingly, Liam was once a swimming instructor, always encouraging others to get in the water and test their limits. In fact, during one of the happiest moments shared with friends, he jumped into Lake at James’s wedding—an unforgettable moment that perfectly captured his spontaneous, joyful spirit. That’s why this challenge feels so right.

In his memory, and to carry on his legacy, six of Liam’s closest family and friends Cole Bracewell, Ryan Barnes, Marcus Duxbury, Reuben Gill, Sam Brown , Ben Kenyon and James Redford will take part in a 3/5K open water swim in Lake Ullswater on 28th June 2025. It’s a meaningful tribute in a place that holds powerful memories, and a way for us to channel our grief into something purposeful.

The swim has been organised by Liams brother in law Cole Bracewell, who found himself in a bad place after losing Liam so reached out to Stuart Craig after seeing a post about a 12 week program he was offering for people in the community struggling with mental health. Unlike Liam Cole has never been a person for fitness but after 9 weeks of Stuart's classes he now understands how fitness positively impacts your mental health and believe the WE EVOLVE project needs to carry on for years to come. As a thankyou Cole would like all proceeds to go to the We Evolve Project, a local mental health charity founded by one of Liam’s close friends. The charity supports individuals through fitness-led programs that promote both mental and physical health—reflecting everything Liam stood for.

If you’re able, please consider donating in Liam’s memory. Your support helps others find strength in struggle, just as Liam would have wanted.

Thank you for helping us honor him.
