An on demand service storing owners bicycles and providing delivery and collections to or from specified locations.

by Steven in Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom

Help a new business promoting healthier lifestyles by making bicycle ownership more convenient. Starting in Exeter, a popular cycling location, we have a good foundation for future success.

This project is an innovative new business, designed to provide a secure and convenient storage solution for bicycle owners.

Many bicycle owners are infrequent riders, using their bikes only on weekends or less. High-value bicycles are often kept indoors to avoid theft, which can take up valuable space within homes. Owners face a trade-off between security and convenience, with limited local solutions to address these challenges.

This new business will offer a local, secure bicycle storage service, ensuring peace of mind for owners. In addition to storage, we will provide a delivery and collection service that brings their bicycles to and from a location of their choosing—whether that’s their home, a local cycling path, or another place chosen.

  • Customers can schedule deliveries or collections using a dedicated app. Flexible booking options, including multiple bookings, make it easy for owners to plan their cycling activities without hassle.
  • Bicycles are stored in a safe, controlled environment, with options to store additional cycling equipment if required. Customers do not access the storage facility directly, further enhancing security.

Below is an example of the type of storage facility that would be used.

Through extensive market research we discovered a gap in the market that has yet to be taken advantage of leading to the creation of this business model.

Cycling is a continually growing industry, with many people choosing the activity to benefit their health and general enjoyment of the great outdoors.

By creating a bespoke on demand bicycle storage and transport service, we will enable people to own a bicycle who currently are not able to due to lack of suitable storage.

This would increase the popularity of cycling, promote a healthy lifestyle and be a extra beneficial service for the general cycling community.

What we need?

In order to make this project a reality the business needs start-up funding and local support.

Funds will be used to set up the storage premises, van purchase, app development and advertising. With enough raised the van will ideally be electric.

We aim to partner with local cycling shops, clubs, and cycling schemes to promote our service directly to our target audience. With discounts for schools, disability support groups and other local community organisations that use the service.

Although starting as a local service, the project has the potential to expand into other areas of the UK, with no real limitation on scale.

Essentially, the more people we can get involved in cycling the better!
