I have been selected to compete as part of the England Squad in the WKU World Championships in Rhodes this October.

After just 5 years of training in the art of Wado Ryu Karate and just two competitions outside of our own club events, I have been picked to represent England in the 45+ year age group. This is something I never imagined I could achieve but all the hard work has paid off.

And yet the hard work is only just beginning! With 5 months to go between selection and competition, I will have to learn to fight faster, smarter and with more accuracy than ever before. My fitness needs to increase and my weight decrease too, if I'm to give myself the best chance of success at this prestigious event.

The standard of competitors will be incredible. I know this from seeing how good they were at the International that I recently competed in. The costs involved are pretty high. It's not just flights and accommodation - there are fees for entry, categories (for me, that's Kata and Kumite), medical, insurance, team clothing and I'll need some new equipment too. All-in-all, it adds up to quite a bit, so I am hoping to get a little help from all of you lovely people out there.

I am also documenting the whole process, which I plan to release on YouTube periodically. I'll add a link here with details.
