An exciting opportunity currently exists for a Guitar Shop and Musical Instrument Retailer in Helston, SW Cornwall. There are currently 3 musical instrument retailers in this entire county of over 568,210 people, there are currently no school band or orchestral instrument dealers to date in this area of the county.

A gap in the market has been identified as a commercial business opportunity that is a welcome alternative to the food and drink businesses currently on offer.

Helston is beautifully positioned for holidaymakers looking to explore the area. This traditional Cornish town is within reach of some of the best locations the county has to offer: it's just 3 miles from the beach, 10 miles from historic Marazion and 12 miles from the harbour town of Falmouth. The town centre provides a number of independent shops and coffee shops with some national chains mixed in, ideal for enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee before buying a gift or two.  In addition there are weekly markets in the Guildhall, a weekly street market in the summer months in Coinagehall Street and a monthly Farmers Market in the Old Cattle Market building at the bottom of town.  There are also a number of supermarkets.

Off The Record Guitars will focus on educating the young musician, the novice, hobbyist, and supplying the semi-professional musician; these 4  groups are seeking value, customer service, and knowledgeable assistance in making what can be a rather significant purchase. We will establish our brand with our superior service and interesting selection of instruments, the exciting and alternative look of our retail environment, our “hands on” approach, and a series of brand marketing with our motto: “Playing the Dream”. 

Off The Record Guitars will offer the public an alternative shopping experience, with a selection of new and refurbished Electric guitars and Amplifiers, School band instruments, Acoustic guitars, Strings, Keyboards and accessories, at reasonable prices. Our products will be supported by skilled repair services and a knowledgeable and friendly staff, and focus on educating the customer as much as the sale. We will offer ongoing music community events, from music lessons, to music clubs and creative workshops for young people. Our unique marketing includes “You Play, We Pay” (whereby a portion of instrument sales are donated to local school band programs and “Money Back” trade-in programs, where customers can receive a % of their purchase price toward upgrading their instrument within one year.

We are currently seeking Startup funds to help to make this Guitar Shop happen and provide our part of Cornwall a place where young people can learn, be inspired, get creative as well as supporting and supplying local musicians the instruments and accessories they need.
