Who are we?
Swimming and aquatics has never been more popular, but the sad reality is that our facilities at Lewes Swimming Club are getting old and crying out for investment
Why are we crowdfunding?
Lewes Swimming Club currently uses outdated, slip-prone starting blocks at our 3 Pools in Newhaven, Lewes and Seaford but it’s our Newhaven Pool where we hold our Club championships each term where the investment is required for our swimmers to gain the best advantage.
Numerous swimmers from Lewes and elsewhere have experienced injuries using the existing starting blocks. But their replacement is expensive and needs a significant cash investment. We need 5 Olympic style starting blocks for our 5 lane pool with new Timing equipment to support us in giving our 200+ club swimmers the best possible start to swimming competition life.
It has been a long term goal of Lewes Swimming Club to purchase new blocks and timing equipment. We need them for our own swimmers, but also to ensure Lewes remains an attractive swimming venue for athletes from further afield to train and enjoy as a community.
However, due to the covid pandemic, there have been very few opportunities for the Club to fundraise and our cash reserves have been severely depleted as we've coped with the pandemic and more recently rising costs through utilities. Modern competitive training blocks will help us achieve this goal.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money we raise will be used directly to pay for new starting blocks and timing equipment at Seahaven swimming pool...
- 5 new blocks and Timing Equipment - £15000
The Club will use the crowdfunding page to support us in building our donations. We will be holding fundraising events and requesting voluntary donations at club events as well as holding prize raffles.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
