OFF AIR

OFF AIR is a graduate film for the University of Westminster by a group of student filmmakers all hoping to enter the film industry in 2025.

Our film is a drama short focusing on the pressures on a first time female director working during the early 2000s in a high intensity, fast paced television studio environment.

It delves into the prominent themes of nepotism, feminism and working under immense pressure.

LOGLINE - Martha’s debut as a live TV director is derailed by a small technical issue, but as she grabs for more control, the issues snowball, and she becomes the show’s biggest threat.

WHY SUPPORT US?

We hope to make our graduate film the best it can possibly be and demonstrate the skills and knowledge we have learnt from our past three years at university.

As this is our last opportunity to fully utilise our university’s resources and equipment, we as a crew want to prove to ourselves our ability to achieve an ambitious film and put everything into our final project.

We want to be able for our work to be shared with the world and have the opportunity to screen it at festivals too.

WHY NOW?

Despite being set in the early noughties, the story is relevant and relatable. Martha is a female director breaking into a largely male dominated world, adding to the pressures of this environment.

This is something that especially female members of crew can relate to especially as we break into the industry ourselves.

The prominence of nepotism within the film and television industry is also very evident and something that we are all aware of and want to explore.

WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?

The film will make effective use of our university’s resources but also place a large portion of the budget into the Production Design and Costume to enhance the locations and ensure it is period accurate from the early 2000s and focus on building the story world.

Having key camera and lighting equipment to ensure the execution of the film is also vital with regards to funding.

Ensuring both cast and crew are supported throughout production is also important to us by covering actors' travel costs and catering for all cast and crew.
