Oasis Academy South Bank is not just a school where students come to learn, it’s also a space where students and their families are loved, cared for and nurtured. We are part of Oasis Hub Waterloo, and we work together to build a community that supports wellbeing and character development alongside brilliant education.
All students are welcome with us, regardless of starting point, need or complexity. We are totally inclusive and believe that all students here will ‘Climb the STAIRS to Greatness’ and reach our two end goals of getting their dream job and becoming a model citizen.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it hard for many students to express themselves at home and at school, with many students' mental health declining. Being located in zone 1 in Central London, many of our students have very little comfortable space at home and to study and access to green outdoor spaces. After over a year of lockdown we want everyone to feel restored after returning to school.
We aim to create a welcoming, safe and therapeutic environment, where our library and student support services will be based. We want to change the 'LRC' into a calm and comforting space where we can focus on our mental health and wellbeing alongside having a neutral space to meet with peers, staff and parents.
We also hope to finally have a dedicated room for a library, which we don't currently have in school. This would include a study space and a seating area where pupils can de-stress and relax during the school day and after school.
We need to fundraise to make this vision a reality, and hope the space can be ready by the start of term in September.
