Aim: The provision of a community hub with good food and accommodation, a place to meet for locals and visitors alike.
- The Oakbank Community Inn, when fully open, will be a community business offering good quality affordable food and
drink and where possible locally sourced to all. It will also provide warm, safe and inclusive spaces for people to
gather.
The Oakbank Community Inn will bring people together and enhance our sense of pride in our village
by offering a welcoming, relaxed and attractive licensed space for eating, drinking and
socialising, along with a separate all-ages space available outwith the licensed premises.
Owning the premises allows residents of Sandbank to shape the future of a local
asset, expanding the business and ensuring that the needs of the community, including
those of local businesses, are at its heart.
In partnership with the nearby community garden, the Oakbank Community Inn will promote growing,
buying and eating local produce and composting waste.
Reopening and operating the Oakbank Community Inn will strengthen local businesses. Having a friendly pub and somewhere to have a meal
within walking distance will make Sandbank a more attractive place for both visitors and
residents, boosting business at B&Bs, the campsite near the village and the marina. This will help to
ensure that the depopulation that has affected Sandbank in the past does not return.
Finally, the Oakbank Community Inn will continue to meet the need for temporary
accommodation for workers and trainees in the area.
The money raised will be used to complete the necessary refurbishments to ensure the inn is a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
