Nyabo's - A Taste of East Africa

Aim: Nyabo's will be an authentic East African themed restaurant and bar, uniquely distinguished by its all female ownership and management.

My name is Hope, I've grown up in West London and started my journey to parenthood at the tender age of 17. I was always told, my life was ruined and I would never become anything due to being a young mum. That is when my determination to prove everyone wrong kicked in. I successfully gained the qualifications I needed to apply for Univeristy and graduated with a degree in Interior and Spatial Design. 

Being a single mother is not easy and has been extremely challenging, with everyday struggles such as childcare to last minute surprises. Not only is it challenging being a mother but a female in itself brings challenges. We are always told we cannot so certain roles, or naturally get bypassed for our male counterparts. 

One day I sat down and thought, why cant there be an all female run business. Then I thought, I like food and a cocktail or two. I researched restaurants/bars and found the majority catered to North/South/West Africans and are run by men. So now the question turned to, why cant we have an East African restaurant run by females.

Nyabo - means Madam or Mrs in Luganda (language spoken in Uganda)

My mission is to transport guests on an unparalleled culinary journey, serving traditional East African dishes and beverages within a warm, inviting, and culturally rich atmosphere. I strive to be a welcoming hub for both the East African diaspora and the broader community, celebrating entrepreneurship and fostering cultural exchange through authentic food, music, and art. My vision is to become the premier destination for East African cuisine and culture, renowned for our authentic flavors, vibrant ambiance, and deep commitment to community.

Currently, West London lacks dedicated and authentic dining establishments catering to the East African community and those seeking genuine cultural experiences. Nyabo's will directly address this underserved market with a curated menu featuring staple dishes like Matoke (Luwombo), Nyama Choma, Ugali, Pilau, and Chapati. Our offerings will include unique beverages imported directly from East Africa, such as Kakira/Bahari Rum, complemented by traditional teas and refreshing juices. Beyond food and drink, we plan to host cultural events, live music, and art displays to enhance the customer experience and foster community engagement, inviting guest chefs and artists passionate about East African culture.

The money raised will be used to bring Nyabo's to life in West London;

- Secure initial funding.

- Find and lease a suitable location in West London.

- Develop a comprehensive menu and refine authentic recipes.

- Build a core management and operational team (all female ofcourse)

- Successfully execute a grand opening and achieve initial sales targets.

- Establish a strong online presence and local reputation within the West London community.

- Work with educational establishments to deliver workshops and story telling geared around African History all year round.

- Support local artists, musicians and performers inspired by African Heritage.

Once established I aim to open doors to young females looking for work experience in a safe environment and mentored by females.
