by Nursem in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom
NHS nurses and midwives wash their hands an average of 55 times a day, caring for us. This has some serious side effects - with over 80% of nurses having suffered from severely irritated, dry and cracked hands.
We’ve spent the past 5 years developing a product that’s been extensively tested by nurses and approved for use in hospitals. Nurses love it - because it really works.
When my wife, Antonia was forced to miss two weeks off work because of her hands, I wanted to do something to help. Working with a panel of British nurses and Newcastle Science City, we've developed a range of therapeutic skin care formulas. They are loved by nurses but are also great for soothing, hydrating and protecting any hands - anyone from mums to gardeners, hairdressers to mechanics or florists to carpenters.
We have developed three fantastic products that use naturally derived ingredients and are free from petrochemicals, SLS/SLE’s, PEG’s, parabens, phthalates, artificial colours and fragrance.
Everything we make is dermatologically tested and certified cruelty free.
Not only are our formulas specifically developed for hard working hands, using the best nature can offer, free from Parabens and Petrochemicals, we also promise that for every product sold we’ll give free hand cream to an NHS nurse or midwife.
We all have a reason to be grateful for a nurse. Rather than cluttering up their wards with supermarket flowers and boxes of chocolates, with Nursem you can give them something that will really make a difference.
We need your help and we’re aiming to raise £20,000, which will go towards funding our very first production run. The more money you pledge, the more nurses and midwives you can help (there are 412,000 in the UK!). We'd like you to discover just how great our products are for yourself and so we’ve got some fantastic rewards - treat yourself and thank a nurse.
Our product development is supported by Newcastle Science City and The Centre for Process Innovation. We’re also working with the following key Nursing organisations:
1. If you have a specific nurse, midwife, ward, hospital or care facility in mind, please select option 1 of the delivery options and we will contact you at the end of the campaign to get the details.
2. If you don't have a specific nurse, midwife, ward, hospital or care facility in mind, please select option 2 of the delivery options and we will work with the RCN Foundation to ensure that we fairly distribute in accordance with The Nursem Promise.
If you're an NHS nurse or midwife we'd love to hear from you - and if you send us your ward, hospital, or care facility details to [email protected] we will put you on the list to receive a Nursem Ward Pack (4 x 300ml bottles) once we have sufficient pledges.
If you help us reach our target and bring Nursem to life, our promise is to continue to provide a months supply of free hand cream to NHS nurses and midwives - for every product you buy online or in-store.
Q: Which countries can you ship rewards to?
Rewards include delivery to UK addresses, but you can pay a little extra to have your parcel delivered internationally. Please send an email to [email protected] to discuss how to pay for the additional shipping costs.
Q: What research did you use to get to your stats?
A: We created a survey and with help from the Nursing Times and received 739 responses.
Q: How did you get to the figure of £9m cost to the NHS?
A: 8.4% of respondents had missed time off work in the past 12 months due to issues relating to their hands (a total of 187 days). Grossed up, we calculated 104,000 days x the average daily salary to reach £9m cost to the NHS.
