NRG Lawyers is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to modernising the legal industry by empowering non-Russell Group students and graduates to thrive. Led by a group of students and graduates from non-Russell Group universities, we collectively aim to modernise the legal industry by providing a supportive, nurturing and nourishing community to develop, empower and inspire non-Russell Group students and graduates in their legal careers.

At the top 130+ law firms in the UK, 9% of trainee solicitors went to non-Russell Group universities. The statistics show that, if you do not go to a Russell Group universities, this will significantly reduce your chances of accessing the legal industry. An education at a non-Russell Group university is tolerated, not appreciated or celebrated.

We bridge generational and class gaps in the legal profession by building an inclusive and future-focused community of allies to support our student and graduate community - from application to leadership - specifically for non-Russell Group students and graduates.

We have supported thousands of students, including non-Russell Group students and graduates in their journeys into law, through our partnerships, and organised many events, workshops and programmes that have positively impacted the legal industry. However, funding has been very challenging for us over the past year and it has meant that we have not been able to cover our basic costs.

Given the lack of funding to universities, increased redundancies in the education sector, increased competition for graduate and apprenticeship schemes and the effects of the pandemic, the confidence of the next generation of students and graduates from non-Russell Group universities is not where it should be.
We want to change this narrative. Now and forever.

That’s why in 2025, we are launching our first ever fundraising campaign to support our next chapter: working more directly with companies who are interested in the intersection of law, leadership, technology, inclusion, culture, recruitment, professional development and social mobility. We do not just want to get more people in the door; we want them to hit the floor running and thrive in an industry that supports their development from application to leadership.

We aim to raise £25,000 in 25 days in 2025 to go on the next step in our journey. We are calling out to our community, our allies, our supporters and champions to support us in this campaign. Our campaign will start on 1 June 2025 and it will end on 25 June 2025, where we will be holding a side event at Europe’s event for legal transformation, LegalTechTalk (buy a ticket to Europe's event for legal transformation herehttps://legaltech-talk.com. This is our most exciting event to date and we will announce the outcome of our fundraising campaign at the event.

The £25,000 will be allocated as follows:

£18,000 = Securing services of a virtual assistant / project manager that can support us with our operations, email campaigns and marketing for a minimum of 12 months.

  • Investing £18,000 into our virtual assistant and project management will not only allow us to track our impact with our NRG community more simply, but it will also allow us to execute our development programmes, events, workshops and community engagement in a more streamlined way. It will also allow our executive committee to focus more on strategic governance and long term growth of our organisation.

£4,000 = Commission media company to showcase the impact and effect of our work by working with us to profile NRG Lawyers as a national organisation that transforms legal futures over a year long agreement.

  • Commissioning a media company will allow us to present our work to a wider audience and speak to more organisations about the prospect of becoming members of NRG Lawyers. This will also improve our grant funding applications and ability to pitch for more donations or social investment from philanthropic organisations and foundations.

£1,000 = Website development and additional marketing support.

  • Improving our website and marketing strategy will allow us to appear as an institution that supports our community and allies. Regularly updating our website will enable us to inform our members of new developments in opportunities from NRG Lawyers. This will enable smoother communication, increased engagement and more support on their journeys.

£1,000 = Team Development Budget (annual day where the executive committee strategise, collaborate and share experiences, perspectives and lessons over the year).

  • In order to nurture, nourish and support our community, we must start with the executive committee. The executive committee has worked tirelessly to lead the vision of NRG Lawyers since April 2021. For 4 years, the team has consistently worked alongside full time jobs, developed programmes on weekends and added significant value to the lives of non-Russell Group students and graduates in our membership. An annual day to strategise, collaborate and share experiences, perspectives and lessons over the year helps us to align our vision together to prepare for the year ahead.

£1,000 = Ancillary costs (merchandise, travel expenses, promotional materials).

  • Having a contingency plan for costs over the year will help us to plan our activities more effectively. Covering essentials such as merchandise, travel expenses, promotional materials or stationary could help us to cover immediate costs when we need them in delivering our support for our community.

During this campaign, we will be doing the following:

1. 25km challenge with each member of the executive committee

2. Fundraiser event on Thursday 12 June 2025

3. London Legal Walk on Tuesday 17 June

4. Social Media Campaign, including 25 voices of NRG
