Aim: Help us to support people with learning disabilities and other hidden disabilities to gain the skills needed for employment.

People Matters creates opportunities for people with learning disabilities and other hidden disabilities who experience disadvantage to be more independent and enjoy life in the same ways as anybody else.

Alongside our health, wellbeing and individual support, we bring people together through social activities which are all member led.

A key part of our work is supporting people with disabilities to prepare for paid or voluntary work. We support the development of confidence, resilience, communication skills, creating or developing CVs, making job enquiries, completing job applications, working on interview techniques.  We even have our own social enterprise selling healthy snacks so trainees can have real experience.  That’s where we would love your support…

1699286623_nourishing_people_logo.pngNourishing People is a social enterprise run by people with disabilities.  Trainees are in charge of the business – all of it – and are supported through every task.  From producing snacks, finding customers, planning routes and delivering sales, trainees are at the heart of everything we do.

This safe environment gives the chance to learn and develop transferrable skills, gain experience and with additional support, move on to voluntary or paid work.

As we move into our new premises, Nourishing People will no longer need to share an activity space so we want to provide them with some of the tools which will help them become more productive whilst also learning new skills.  Items will include a dedicated project computer so they can communicate with vendors, whiteboards and display boards so they can brainstorm ideas and develop their marketing skills, wall maps so they can plan their routes and much more.
