Just before Christmas Nigel Lockwood passed away after a short illness. Nigel has been a large part of the Robertsbridge, Battle and Bexhill community for decades. He taught music in our Primary School to generations of pupils as well as supporting the Community Church, Salehurst Charity and Treasurer to the Robertsbridge Community Association, who administer the Village Hall. He was primarily a really nice guy and gentleman. He will be missed.
Before he died, he got involved in the planning of a Community Orchard behind the Hall, just over the Bund. The vision for the Orchard was dear to Nigel’s heart in that it would be free for all residence to visit and share the Apples, Pears, Plums and Cherries that grow each year, We would like to commemorate Nigel’s life and service to our community by commissioning a bench in his memory and position it in the Orchard. The bench would be there for anyone to rest and view the Orchard and watch it flourish. The Orchard would be open for anyone to watch and enjoy nature at its best, and at the right time pick some fruit to enjoy there and then or take home to supplement your meal.
The bench would be made by a local craftsman using local materials and would a be a permanent reminder of Nigel’s character and good works. Would you be willing to donate towards this memorial to Nigel, any amount would be gratefully received.
