Aim: On 27th August Tom & Barbara will Zip Wire from the Tyne Bridge to raise money for Newcastle Helping Street Friends.
We are a non-profit organisation and consist of a small team of volunteers. We use our own money to buy essential items for people living on the streets and those struggling in accommodation.
We head out into Newcastle city centre and hand out hot and cold drinks, food packs, clothes, toiletries, tents, sleeping bags and any other items that are needed.
We have a Facebook page Newcastle Helping Street Friends and people donate food items, clothing and money we also have people who raise money for us to buy much needed essentials. We also have people from our page who come out and volunteer with us.
We work alongside another non-profit organisation called Pave the Way who help get people into accommodation and offer support with the accommodation. We pass details on to Pave the Way when we speak to people on the streets who are wanting accommodation and as a team we’ve had a great success rate in getting people into their own home.
We know that this winter isn’t going to be good with rising food, gas and electricity costs the numbers on the streets will also rise and we need to be prepared and be well stocked up. To raise some extra funds Tom will zip wire from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle dressed as Mario from the Nintendo game The Mario Brothers. This will be on Saturday 27th August 2022 between 3-4pm.
