Hello, I’m Julie Rose, and I’ve been hosting community dance events in Cornwall for over 30 years. I’m the co-founder of SOULWAVE Dance Cornwall, a space dedicated to creative dance, movement, connection, and well-being. Our events - held indoors, outdoors, and online - bring people together to explore self-expression and make connections through dance and movement.
SOULWAVE is more than just dance; it’s about creating a nurturing environment that enables meaningful and shared creative experiences. Over the years, we’ve built a vibrant and supportive community, dancing outside in Cornwall’s stunning landscape, as well as offering indoor and online sessions for people across the region.
When lockdown hit in 2020, we had the brilliant idea to start dancing outside. We launched the outdoor dances as a lifeline for connection and well-being during a time of isolation. With no work or funds to buy the necessary equipment, we ran a crowdfunding campaign, raising £2,500 to make it happen. The incredible support we received from our community turned that vision into reality, and these events became the foundation of our amazing dance family.
Now, nearly five years on, the equipment we purchased has been so well-loved and well used it needs replacing, upgrading and (also reconditioning where possible). To keep Soulwave thriving, we’re launching a new fundraising campaign. As we also take the exciting step of becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC), we are committed to ensuring our offerings remain accessible, impactful, and sustainable for all.
