Aim: Flixton Swim Team require new anti-wave lane ropes that are specially designed to reduce waves and splashing caused by swimmers.

Who are we?

Flixton Swim Team is a friendly, community-focused swimming club based in Greater Manchester. We welcome swimmers of all ages and abilities, from beginners learning the basics to competitive athletes striving for personal bests. Our dedicated coaches and volunteers work hard to create a supportive, inclusive environment where every swimmer can thrive—whether they’re training for fitness, fun, or competition.

We’re proud to be more than just a swim team—we’re a family. Our club promotes confidence, discipline, and teamwork, and we’re passionate about helping young people stay active and healthy through sport.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We’re crowdfunding to raise the remaining funds needed to purchase high-quality anti-wave lane ropes and essential accessories for our pool. These lane ropes are crucial for creating a calm, competition-standard swimming environment that supports our swimmers’ development and allows us to host local galas.

Earlier this year, we held a sponsored swim that raised part of the funds, but we’re still short of the total needed. Without proper lane ropes, our swimmers are training in turbulent water that affects their technique and progress. We also can’t host competitions, which limits opportunities for our athletes and the wider community.

This project meets the criteria for extra funding because it directly improves access to sport, supports youth development, and enhances a community facility used by hundreds of local families.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We’re committed to being transparent about how every donation will be used. Here’s a breakdown of the costs:

  • Anti-wave lane ropes (suitable for competition use): £2,800
  • Lane rope trolley (for safe storage and easy handling): £2,500
  • 8 lane rope tensioners (to secure the ropes in place): £1,000

Total project cost: £6,300

We’ve secured a £2,000 pledge from Sport England, but it’s conditional on us raising the same amount ourselves, so we’ve got some fundraising work ahead of us!

Every contribution brings us closer to creating a safer, more professional training environment for our swimmers.

Community impact

This project will benefit not just our swimmers, but the wider community. With proper lane ropes, we’ll be able to host local galas and time trials, bringing families together and reducing the need for long-distance travel to compete. These events also help raise funds to keep our club affordable and accessible to all.

By upgrading our equipment, we’re investing in a facility that supports physical activity, mental wellbeing, and community connection for people of all ages.
