Our training boats are becoming unsafe, we are looking to replace them along with a more reliable safety boat.

On the 11th May 2023 we'd raised £6,096 with 70 supporters in 69 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
NDYC is a sailing and watersports club located on the North Devon coast. The club operates as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) which means we are a not for profit organisation.
We are owned and run by our members and we rely on volunteers for everything from manning the safety boats, helping behind the bar to scraping the mud off our launching slipway.
We really pride ourselves on operating a fun and safe place for families to enjoy being on the water together.
Our club trains over 150 new youth sailors a year and we prioritise local children and support underprivileged families.
We also run taster days from the local schools for free.
During Covid the club was closed for 2 years, with training and racing not able to operate safely. The training programmes normally feed the club with new members every year. By not having this it has dwindled the active and participating members. The club also developed a stigma of being closed off and not a welcoming place.
We have really had to work hard to encourage new members into the club and make it a welcoming place which people want to spend their time. Since we have actively changed the perception of the club we have seen participation rocket. People have jumped at the chance of learning to sail.
The largest growing part of the club is currently adult sailors who have joined and taken up the sport. We have fun sailing sessions where we give extra support to sailors who have recently passed their RYA qualifications and want to get more time on the water. We discuss the weather conditions, the tide and just give them a bit more support to build their confidence.
This we hope in time will feed through the next generation of club racers and coaches.
We operate a sailing pathway to encourage members to progress as far as they feel comfortable with.
The below infographic details more about our pathway:
The club hosts nation events for biggest fleets which are single handed monohul called a Blaze and single handed catamarans called Sprint 15s.
The new generation, one of which will become the next national champion. Below is Fraser Manning a NDYC member and 2 x national champion. Fraser is now passing on his skills and is one of our race coaches and instructor.
We have an old fleet of club boats which are degrading over Covid and some are on the verge of becoming unsafe and will be decommissioned and replaced.
We want to add in 3 new lasers which can be used for both training and borrowed for club racing or national events round the country.
The new safety boat is required to:
We are going to buy 3 new Lasers with a spare set of sails for each:
A new small safety boat with a 20HP outboard engine.
3 x Laser @ £4,600 = £13,800
Rigiflex 400 costs = £4,250
20 HP Yamaha engine = £3,250
Total Cost = £21,300

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Local Connections: If you know of any local grants which you think we might be able to apply to please apply to the grants and try to get them involved.
Please can you donate what you can and we will put your funds to train the next olympian or maybe just help some kids to mess about on the water!
