Create an accessible woodland trail to protect red squirrels, educate visitors, and offer spaces for relaxation and connection with nature.

by Wild Oak Farm in Ryde, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom

Tucked away within our farm lies a 16-acre woodland, a serene haven that’s home to some of nature’s most incredible creatures—including the elusive red squirrel. Once a common sight in the UK, these beautiful animals are now under threat, and our woodland has become one of the few places they can still thrive.

We envision creating a woodland nature trail that invites you to share this magical space. Imagine walking along winding paths where the soft crunch of leaves underfoot is accompanied by birdsong, spotting wildflowers blooming in dappled sunlight, and—if you’re lucky—catching a glimpse of a red squirrel darting through the trees.

This trail isn’t just about walking; it’s about experiencing nature. Along the way, you’ll find benches for quiet reflection, birdwatching points for observing local wildlife, and picnic areas where families can relax and enjoy the beauty of the woodland. Educational signs will tell the stories of the red squirrels, the importance of biodiversity, and the sustainable practices that keep this woodland flourishing.

We want to share this special place with you, but to make this dream a reality, we need your help. Together, we can protect this vital habitat, create a space for the community to enjoy, and ensure the survival of these precious red squirrels for generations to come.
