The subject of periods can be such a taboo, many young girls start their periods between the age of 9-12 and this can some what be a confusing and somewhat scary time for them.
Why our community needs us
Research show that one in 10 young girls experience period poverty, which result in them often missing schools. To combat this The free Period Products for schools scheme was introduced in January 2020. In these uncertain times we want to compliment this scheme by equipping and enabling young girls with a thorough understanding about their natural monthly cycle. So they can become more empowered, resilient and confident experiencing one of the biggest change in their adolescent life.
We want to reach up to 5000 young girls within socially disadvantage areas within London and the South East with our Natural Cycle Development Programme
Your pledge will enable us to:
- Run our 2020, Natural Cycle Development Programme Pilot Project in schools within socially disadvantage areas within London & The South East for year 6-11
- Create a teaching kit - including teaching materials, sample of menstrual products, manual etc
- Recruit and enable trainers to become expert to carry out sessions, including DBS checks
- Create local opportunities for young women, to volunteer with us and learn new skills as a mentor
Will you back us so we can?
Work with primary and secondary schools within London & The South East, to equip and empower adolescent girls with a thorough understanding about their periods through our Natural Cycle Development Programme.
We work with young girls through our youth advisory panel to help build our programmes, this allows us to provide a holistic approach to the education we deliver. Our provision therefore uses age appropriate language and resources, and include worksheets, games, videos, case studies, PowerPoints and audio-visual aids. We also provide a safe space for young girls to discuss, ask questions about little and big matters in relations to periods in a reassuring manner. Covering topics such as what are periods, when periods starts, period cycles, sanitary towels and tampons, keeping track of periods, period symptoms and pain, mood changes before and during periods and overall wellbeing.
The programme consists of 90 minutes sessions delivered in schools by our expert trainers.
