We’re raising funds to improve and/or replace some of our woodworking equipment. To provide a “social” space for Men and Women to meet, to make and to do wood working projects. Loneliness and social isolation are just a couple of the many challenges faced by the elderly in our society. The ‘Men in Sheds’ movement was established as a means to help combat this problem amongst mostly but not exclusively elderly men. The ‘ Shed ‘provides an environment in which individuals are able to make things, help with repairs in the Parish and to chat . It rekindles the camaraderie of the workplace that many miss once retired and it has a benefit to the wider community. Funds are spent on equipment for the workshop, materials such as wood for making items, for the upkeep of the Shed, for training and visits.
We are fortunate to live in an area where Red squirrels and many species of birds also live. It would be wonderful if most people could enjoy a bird table, squirrel feed box or bird box and say that they helped make it themselves in a community workshop or Shed. We use recycled wood where possible, when we can get it. One thing lock down 2020 taught many of us, particularly older isolated people, was that we miss the company of others, but it also brought many of us closer to nature, the wonders of watching birds on a garden feeder or a Red squirrel running along a garden fence to feed from a hand made squirrel feeder.
