Hello, and thank you so much for visiting Namma Party’s crowdfunding page! 

I’M GOBIKA, FOUNDER OF NAMMA PARTY :)

Nice to meet you! I’m 24 years old, and was born in Sri Lanka. My country is beautiful and vibrant, but it is also marred by relentless conflict. When I was 20, it became necessary for me to leave to seek peace. I travelled to the UK where I sought asylum. When I first arrived, I knew very few people, and found the process of having my refugee status recognised very challenging and isolating. I was lonely. I missed my home comforts, my loved ones, and struggled with feelings of depression. I didn’t really know what to do. I am so grateful that during this time, I was able to access support from excellent counsellors and mentors, and seek solace in my creativity.

I have always loved celebrating, planning and attending events and parties.  To me, they are a way to commemorate life’s most special occasions, an excellent opportunity to strengthen our most precious bonds, to connect, to express our love for one another, and to mark meaningful occasions that boost our quality of life and wellbeing. 

When I lived in Sri Lanka, I used to make decorations like bunting, cake toppers, table decorations and confetti for my family, neighbours and friends. I decorated my house for festivals, and won prizes for decorating the pavilion in my house colours at school sports events. These opportunities helped me to improve my skills and also showcase my designs. Soon, people began to request my help making their parties and events beautiful! 

 When I finally obtained my right to remain in the UK, it was my opportunity to begin working for my future. Party planning and decoration was an obvious career choice for me, and so I began taking the first steps to pursue my dream job.

NAMMA PARTY: WE CREATE, YOU CELEBRATE!

I was excited to be accepted onto a start-up incubator run by TERN (The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network), and began developing my ideas and building my party planning business, Namma Party...in April 2020, right after the UK went into lockdown! Well, events and parties may currently be on lockdown, but I don’t really see why this should stop us from celebrating the milestones of our lives! 

So, I’ve been working hard to launch Namma Party’s very first offerings, our Box Parties! Box Parties are a way to send a party to you or your loved one’s door, filled with handmade, customisable party decorations and gifts. 

Namma Party boxes can help make the happiest moments of life feel special, beautiful, memorable and fun- even when gathering in person isn’t possible. 

HOW YOU CAN HELP

I have created 2 MVP products, both available for Pre-Order via this Crowdfunder through April 22. 

• Birthday Box Party, full of party supplies and decorations to turn your house into your birthday party! Including, but not limited to: customised bunting with your loved one’s name, confetti, pretty lights, a friendship bracelet, paper butterflies, and a card!
• Bride Box Party, for brides celebrating an engagement or marriage! Including, but not limited to: customised sash, handmade flower crown, pretty lights, paper flowers, butterflies and tassels!

These boxes can be shipped anywhere in the UK.

Do you have a friend, family member, colleague or loved one in the UK who is celebrating a birthday or engagement after May 16, 2021??? If so, pre-order them a Box Party!

Why pre-order? One of the major elements needed to set up Namma Party is the purchasing of production materials and art supplies. This will be the final puzzle piece for me to succeed in bringing beautiful box parties to you and your loved ones. Pre-orders will help me achieve this!

We are working hard for the online shop to open in April, and are humbly asking for your kind support in this mission of lifting Namma Party off of the ground!
