My Sweetheart & Me (A tale of love and laughter) is a light-hearted romantic comedy stage musical, telling the parallel stories of three couples who back in 1967, during the Summer of love, frequent the Suntree Bar in the fictional sleepy town of Cheerysville, Ireland.
Volatile Yvonne is fed up with her husband ‘Happy’ Sammy, who soon turns back to his old vices and spirals towards oblivion. Proud Ruby and layabout Cyril’s matrimony turns out to be built on rather sandy foundations that barring some kind of a miracle, cannot prevent a certain collapse. Meanwhile, their geeky looking, mature student of a son ‘Bookworm Bob’ has caught the eye of pretty Sheena, who is somewhat annoyed because she is rapidly approaching thirty and still hasn't found her Mr Right. And yes, Bob might just be her type . However, will two rather unexpected sources of romantic competition in the form of villainous, all round ladies man, dastardly Dandy Dan, or perhaps even, the aging peace loving, hippie freak Kenneth, threaten to wreck their big chance of a summer of love? That is, if Sheena's no nonsense, sassy best friend Barbara, who pretends to be in her late twenties, when really she’s more approaching fifty, doesn’t kill all three of them first?
So why not join them, the live on stage hippie band "Sugarloaf", and the many other colourful Cheerysville characters, who frequent the Suntree bar, as they sing, laugh and dance their way through a series of inter-linked romantic, sad, funny, implausible but ultimately heart-warming encounters. Just think of this feel good musical as an affectionate homage to a less cynical time of innocence and light-heartedness and then sit back and enjoy the ride.
A show filled with fun, laughter and fantastic songs, sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
