Why do we need to do this work?
We want to decorate our outdated band room to make it more welcoming and safer for our band members, especially for our young musicians in training band and more elderly players. Our band room has wooden floors and a very high ceiling which makes it hard to heat up; this work aims to make it more economical to run. We want to ensure that our bands have a lovely place to meet, encouraging others to join and helping to keep our band alive in the long term.
What do we need to do?
Our band room has very high ceilings which require special treatment for damp patches and needs repainting. As the ceilings are so high, we will require scaffolding as well as a professional painter and decorator to complete this work.
We are also hoping to purchase floor covering to replace our current wooden flooring, and add blinds to our windows. This is to keep more warmth in the room to reduce our energy bills and to help make it more cosy and inviting.
About the band
We are a friendly and busy community brass band in the heart of Ryedale in Malton, North Yorkshire. We have our main band and a Community Training Band that supports all members of the community who would like to learn. We provide free loan of instruments to our training band members as well as to members of our main band if they do not have an instrument of their own. This is greatly valued by everyone involved and is much needed in the financial crisis we find ourselves in today.
There are no fees to be a member of our bands; funding is raised to keep the bands alive from engagements, donations and collections. We play at many local events throughout the year, including charity events and Malton's monthly markets and food festivals. This is where most of our collection funding is made.
Below are some photos of our band room from our social evening last year; together with one of our Training Band. As you can see, we make the most of the area we have, but it is in desperate need of some tender loving care.
If we can get the funds for the refurbishment, it will help to keep the band room in good condition for the long term as we would be able to run our community bands in a much safer and economical way. Thank you for your support.
