Who are Murmurations?

Hello friends.

We're Abi, Lucy, Eva and Anna — otherwise known as Murmurations, a four-piece girl band based in Norwich. We create ‘music for the moors’, combining Irish bouzouki, harmonium, flute, mandolin, cello and drums with rich four-part harmonies. We've been playing music together for nearly two years, supporting incredible artists such as Richard Dawson, The Rabbitts and Caoilfhionn Rose. Last summer we embarked on our biggest adventure yet — recording our first album, ‘Where The Land Meets Sky’. The album is due to be released this summer on July 31st.

Our dream

In true ‘murmuration’ spirit, ‘Where The Land Meets Sky’, captures the organic formation and growth of Murmurations, as we discovered our unique collective voice.  Across 10 tracks, the album journeys through loss, yearning, dreaming, hope, and, finally —  belonging. Behind this album is the flocking together of many to create something greater than the sum of our parts. It is a very special project to us that we are so excited to watch take flight in the world, reaching new places and people.

However, to give it the best start in life, we need your help. Though 'Where the Land Meets Sky' is now complete, ensuring the success of its release needs the support of many.

Community is at the heart of Murmurations and has been since the very beginning. We have been fortunate enough to not only have love within the band, but the amazing kindness of our friends, family and the local music scene of Norwich. We are so thankful to those of you who have made it out to gigs, shared our posts or enquired when we would finally get round to recording (!). Now, your support would mean more than ever in helping us make our debut release a success.

What will you will be funding

The album is fully recorded, mixed and mastered and ready to launch. We are looking to raise money towards three key things that would make all the difference to our release.

1. PHYSICAL MERCHANDISE

To celebrate this huge milestone, we would love to print physical CDs of the album, along with a fully illustrated lyric booklet. Resident illustrator Abi Harold will also be designing a limited run of t-shirts, which we’ll sell at gigs and online.

Your support will help with large production costs, so that folks can take a tangible piece of our world with them.

2. MINI TOUR

Come see us on the road! We’ve lined up a series of intimate gigs at beautiful venues in Norwich, London, and Luton. This will be Murmurations’ first tour reaching audiences further afield. We will be joined by our drummer Sara all the way from Colombia and we are hoping to cover some of these travel expenses. Your support would allow us to share our album, as it was intended to be heard, with a wider audience.

3. PROMOTION

As we go beyond our beloved Norwich, our dream is to give 'Where the Land Meets Sky' the chance to be found by new listeners. In this day and age, promotion through paid advertisement is the most effective way to create awareness in areas we would not otherwise reach. Your support would help us boost social media posts, print flyers and create ads.

Recording 'Where The Land Meets Sky'

What once started out as a solo project, Murmurations has grown to be something much more than we could have ever imagined - constantly evolving in formation and creative collaboration. Just before we began recording, we were privileged to be joined by the incredibly talented Sara Zuluaga Correa. Sara had seen us play our very first gig and months later, offered to play with us. After just a few hours of rehearsals, she joined us for an intense few days recording. As we hope you will hear, Sara's masterful percussion truly elevated existing tracks to new heights. Her generous contribution reflects perfectly what the project of Murmurations has been all about.

When it came to deciding how to go about recording this album, we had no doubt who would capture us at our most authentic and creative, other than ‘honorary Murm’ Odhran Linsey, of Norwich band The Rabbitts. Odhran is an immensely talented musician, with a unique and sensitive ear. Having recorded, mixed and mastered The Rabbitt's recent tracks, we trusted him completely to create something magical in his studio, deep in the beautiful Norfolk countryside. It was here we had both the time to nurture and reshape old songs, as well as the freedom to explore and build upon new ones. The album is scattered with bird song, group improvisation and vulnerability that truly needed the space and safety of this environment to come to life.

The privilege of time dedicated solely to sharing and creating music with friends is something we will never take for granted, and now the recording process is complete, we couldn’t be happier with what we have collectively made.

A final note

If you have made it this far, thank you!

Asking our community to support us financially has been a daunting prospect but we are so thankful for any and every way you help us along our band journey. If you cannot donate, we would so appreciate any shares of this page or would love to see you at one of our upcoming shows! Thank you for believing in us and supporting our music. We really hope you love this album as much as we do.

Love,

Abi, Lucy, Eva and Anna
