Motiv8's Production of The Little Mermaid

Aim: We are looking to raise funds to support Motiv8's production of The Little Mermaid.
The Little Mermaid is a stage musical produced by Disney Theatrical, based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same name and the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find true love.
Motiv8 Productions is a not for profit local theatre group based in Somerset. We are a high energy, family run entertainment group producing musical theatre, dance and variety shows and fundraising events to our local community.
We are a very inclusive group and open our auditions up to all enabling us to benefit the wider community as a whole. Motiv8 is well known in the local community for going bigger and better!!
Motiv8 is entirely self funding and its financial support is obtained mainly through fund raising events run by our Committee Members at their own expense and theatre tickets. We also raise funds for other charitable organisations, with many thousands of pounds donated to local worthy causes over the years.
As with many groups, our fundraising capabilities have been hit quite hard over the last couple of years due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and we are therefore asking for your help to put on what will be one of our biggest shows to date.
We’re fast destroying the evidence of the 2 years we spent indoors. As normal life flooded back in, there was a simultaneous impetus to bury the evidence of our pandemic experiences. There were celebrations, a collective sigh of relief and we moved on. Yet ‘normal life’ was no longer normal for those who had experienced loss, or for those whose lives had changed irreparably.
The Show
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."
Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colourful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
Disney's The Little Mermaid offers a fantastic creative opportunity for rich costumes and sets, as well as the chance to perform some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years.
The show will take place at Westlands Entertainment Venue in Yeovil in May 2023.
How your support will help
The money will go towards paying for the set, the cost of costumes and props as well as other costs involved in such a production. All members of the production team and the cast do this for the love of theatre and do not receive any financial gain from taking part in the production. The venue obviously charges for the event as well as all royalties coming out of ticket sales. For such an extravagant show, we obviously need to raise as much as we can to do the performance justice in typical Motiv8 style. Should we be lucky enough to have a surplus of funds, this will go to supporting our next show.
