Morgan and Alice in 1988 when we were teaching together at St James' School, Zongoro, here with Bridget, Leslie and Gerald
What am I doing and why?
On May 21st this year I will be cycling from Kingston to Brighton (other events will follow) to raise money for cancer treatment for my dear friend Morgan who I taught with in Zimbabwe thirty-four years ago.
How donations will be used
The funds raised will be used to support Morgan and his wife Alice through his illness, principally for Morgan's medical bills but also to cover transport costs to Pietermaritzburg where his treatment is taking place, and to support Alice should Morgan have to cease work during treatment.
Lord Sharkey and Baroness Suttie have kindly agreed to provide oversight over how the funds are used and donors will be provided with updates.
Your support could make all the difference
I would be massively grateful for any donations you can make now so we have the fund so Morgan can begin his radiotherapy treatment following completion of chemotherapy. Your support will make all the difference.
Amazing generosity already
I am hugely grateful to those who have shown amazing generosity by donating £4,000 already to ensure that Morgan's chemotherapy treatment could start last year.
Incredible warmth and kindness
Morgan and his wife Alice showed me incredible warmth and kindness when I lived in rural Zimbabwe - if you who have read my book, you will recognise Morgan as the person who stayed with me when the police raided the bottle store in 1988! – so I am determined to do all I can to ensure that Morgan gets the treatment he needs.
Come and join me
If you fancy some exercise, come and join me on the ride and help me raise funds for Morgan. But if that doesn’t appeal, please donate as generously as you can and come and join us for a drink on the beach at Brighton at the end of the ride.
