Aim: Help support our rowing club to go to Skiffie Worlds - the St Ayles Skiff World Championships in Stranraer this July

Who are we?

We are a community coastal rowing club who have built and row a beautiful St Ayles Skiff in which members experience the exhilaration and wonder of gentle rows & exciting races around the Angus coast and beyond.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are raising funds to support our rowing crew as they take our St Ayles Skiff 'Goose' to compete in 'Skiffie Worlds' - the St Ayles Skiff championships in Stranraer this July.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Now that our small club has a growing crew of rowers we are delighted to be able to join the wider 'skiffie' community at 'Skiffie Worlds'. Our fundraising will support our team as they compete, in particular with the purchase of kit such as a shore gazebo - a vital base for our crews on the shore of Loch Ryan as we compete in races throughout the week of 6th to 12th July. We also need to purchase other equipment for the trip, for example security locks for our boat trailer and we hope to purchase a second VHF radio for use at the event. All the kit will of course also be also used at future events. We are hoping to raise £500 towards the gazebo and equipmen1749739551_tent_alone.jpgt.

Community impact

St Ayles skiff rowing gives coastal communities a vital link to their maritime heritage. New rowers often have little experience on the water and rowing in St Ayles skiffs like ours is a low cost sporting opportunity that gives those living on or near the coast a chance to learn about and enjoy a sea sport regardless of previous experience.  Rowers then have the choice to develop their skills and fitness levels further and to compete against and be inspired other coastal communities from the rest of Scotland and across the world. 'Skiffie Worlds' is particularly important in this and as well as sheltering our team, our gazebo will provide a focus for our supporters who are not quite ready to race - well and truly 'launching' Montrose into the skiffie racing world.
